We just want to make sure everyone knows there are FIVE days left to reprogram your phone equipment, notify your security and alarm vendors, and make any other necessary changes to your 408 local dialing patterns.
Due to the 408 area code overlay approved in October 2011, all local calls made from one 408 number to another one will REQUIRE changing dialing patterns. You will now need to DIAL IT OUT(dial the 408 area code in addition to the local number). This is because a new area code (669) has been introduced, in an overlay deployment.
** CRITICAL ** Various systems you installed years ago may need to be re-programmed:
1. Phone Systems
2. Phone Dialers
3. Modems
4. Fax Machines/Servers
5. Security Monitoring Services
6. Alarm Companies
These same rules apply if you have received one of the new 669 area code numbers, you will need to DIAL IT OUT, when calling from one local number to another (669 area code number to another 669 area code number).
WHEN IN DOUBT, DIAL IT OUT.
